Bundesliga: FC Bayern missed victory against Eintracht Frankfurt

Like probably most football fans in Germany (unless they are supporters of FCB or possibly VfL Bochum), I too hope that after winning 10 titles in a row, another team will finally become German champions again. And lo and behold: It’s the end of January and it almost seems as if we might finally experience a really close race for the title again this time.

The media has also been wishing for a long time that there is finally one – or even better several – clubs that can stand up to the Reds over the 34th matchday. Now, after the 18th matchday, Bayern are just one point ahead of Union, two over RBL, three over Freiburg and five over Frankfurt, and if BVB wins in Leverkusen today (which I don’t necessarily see), then they’ll have the blacks too -Yellow only three points behind the record champions. But instead of being happy about a close championship fight, the whiners are crawling out of their holes everywhere. The tenor in many media is then often in interviews with those responsible at FCB: “Bayern has not won three times. That can’t be the claim of the record champions, can it?” The wording of the question suggests an apparent concern. In reality, it cannot be surpassed in hypocrisy. And I say that as a lion fan who really has nothing to do with the reds (apart from my favorite cousin who has been a die-hard FCB fan since the 70s).

If I could now decide whether Bayern wins the CL this season and finally another team wins the title (I would prefer to be there – due to the last few years – the SGE, BVB, Union or Freiburg), then then I would sign that immediately. And the DFB Cup can be won by someone other than the usual suspects. Anyone who has ever played amateur football or still plays today knows that it is not normal for a team to dominate a league like this for a full decade. Defeats are simply part of sport. And here one or the other opens a barrel, just because you have played 3x draw. I just can’t understand that there are many people who regard an annual FCB German championship as an unwritten law. For many – especially in my opinion younger supporters – even a double from championship and cup is already what they expect as a minimum from their club. And a season is only really good when you get the triple.

I also don’t understand the idea that a team like Eintracht Frankfurt, who thrilled the whole of Germany with their EL title last season, can just shoot out of the arena like that. Just a reminder: SBU disenchanted FC Barcelona last season. And they now have so many great kickers (also on the substitutes’ bench) that they can put up a thrilling fight with the Reds. And that the people of Cologne under Baumgart are always energized and don’t hide from Bayern, should have gotten around in the league by now. In any case, I found both the appearances of Cologne and Eintracht very refreshing and I’m glad that they made the league more exciting again.

FCB will probably be at the top again in the end, but at least there is now finally real resistance from the BULI competition again. Keep it up! cool
