BVB jumps to the top of the table – Stuttgart escapes the relegation zone

Borussia Dortmund fought for a victory at FC Augsburg and thus replaced Bayern at the top of the table. VfB Stuttgart scores important points against relegation.

With one game left before the end of the season, Borussia Dortmund once again took the lead in the Bundesliga table. BVB prevailed 3-0 (0-0) at FC Augsburg on Sunday and thus took advantage of the mistake by defending champion FC Bayern Munich, who lost 1-3 (1-0) to RB Leipzig on Saturday. The team coached by Edin Terzic is two points ahead of Munich going into the season finale next Saturday. BVB then receives FSV Mainz 05, Munich have to play at 1. FC Köln. Sébastien Haller secured victory on Sunday with a brace (58th/84th minute) and Julian Brandt (90th + 3). After a red card because of an emergency brake against Felix Uduokhai (38th), the guests played outnumbered for a long time.

FSV Mainz 05 vs VfB Stuttgart

Serhou Guirassy remains the life insurance policy for VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga relegation battle. Also thanks to the attacker’s eleventh goal of the season, the Swabians won 4-1 (1-1) at FSV Mainz 05 on Sunday and left the relegation zone one game before the end of the season. Before Guirassy’s goal to make it 2-1 (64th minute), Marcus Ingvartsen put the hosts ahead (23′) before VfB captain Wataru Endo (41′) managed to equalize. In the closing stages, substitute Chris Führich (78′) and Tanguy Coulibaly (90’+1) made everything clear.

However, VfB is still threatened with the third relegation within seven years. Before the last matchday, on which Stuttgart will play at home against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Saturday (3.30 p.m. / Sky), the lead in the table is 15. only one point on a direct relegation zone. Nevertheless, the away win in Mainz raises hopes that Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeneß can make his rescue mission a success.
