Bundesliga: Bayern wins thanks to Lewandowski’s hat-trick

Status: 01/15/2022 5:30 p.m

After the botched start of the second half of the season in the Bundesliga, FC Bayern Munich has come back impressively with a comfortable win at 1. FC Köln.

The table leader from Munich sat down on Saturday (01/15/2022) at the 1. FC Cologne clearly 4-0 and thus maintained the six-point lead over pursuers Borussia Dortmund. After three wins in a row, the Cologne team had to accept a defeat for the first time.

Lewandowski with three goals

In the 9th minute, Robert Lewandowski got the Munich team off to a flying start. Corentin Tolisso increased with a remarkable direct shot from the edge of the penalty area (25th). Top scorer Lewandowski made the preliminary decision after the break (62nd, 74th) with his goals two and three. Lewandowski has a total of 23 goals this season.

The Munich team also set a new record after scoring at least one goal in their 66th Bundesliga game in a row. Munich had also maintained the old record of 65 games in a row with their own goal – across seasons from 2011/12 to 2013/14.

FC Bayern with a strong initial phase

After the defeat at the start of the second half of the season against Mönchengladbach and the victory of pursuer Dortmund against Freiburg, FC Bayern was under pressure – and was looking for compensation from the start. Cologne let themselves be duped time and time again by the powerful Munich team, especially in the early stages. After Ondrej Duda recklessly lost the ball in midfield, Munich switched quickly, Thomas Müller served Lewandowski, who easily converted free in front of Marvin Schwäbe. The guests continued to control the game as they wished, Tolisso crowned a strong and wonderful combination after a one-two with Müller to make it 2-0.

Cologne without luck in the end

Cologne only became bolder afterwards, Mark Uth (31st) scored the supposed goal after a strong individual performance, but it didn’t count because of a narrow offside position. Shortly before the break, Manuel Neuer, who was back in the Bayern goal after surviving the corona infection, had to survive another tricky situation: Duda’s shot (45+1) just missed the target.

The hosts also came out of the break with momentum, but Munich remained ice cold: Leroy Sane, who had just been substituted on, scored Lewandowski’s third Bayern goal in an exemplary manner. FC has not yet given up. Dejan Ljubicic had the goal on his feet, but failed at Neuer (69th). Three minutes later, Timo Hübers hit the crossbar with a head from a free kick. in return, Lewandowski, again after a nice pass from Sane, finally made everything clear.

Cologne has to go to Bochum, Bayern to Hertha

The league leaders continue on matchday 20 with the next away game, on Sunday (5:30 p.m.) at Hertha BSC. Cologne take on VfL Bochum on Saturday (6:30 p.m.).
