After repeated coach changes recently, Bundesliga club FC Augsburg is hoping for a return to continuity with Enrico Maaßen.

“The fact that we have given Enrico Maassen a three-year contract is a clear sign of how convinced we are of him and that we are of course striving for continuity,” said managing director Stefan Reuter when presenting his “absolutely ideal solution”.

Since Manuel Baum, who worked from December 2016 to April 2019, there have been coach changes at FCA every year. Martin Schmidt, Heiko Herrlich, Markus Weinzierl – nobody has been in office for much longer than twelve months.

Maassen wants a clear identity with enthusiasm

Maaßen (38) started training with the team on Monday after he had been able to “sniff a bit of FCA air” for a few days. “We have to create an identity. We want a clear game identity, »said Maassen, who switched from the amateurs from Borussia Dortmund to the Swabians.

The BVB U23 team also worked “under Bundesliga conditions”, said Maassen. But of course things are a bit more professional in the Bundesliga. “Third division football is third division football, first division football is first division football, but football is football,” said Weinzierl’s successor. “It’s much more about taking everyone with you, getting the boys excited about the game idea.”
