A few days after the bitter exit from the Europa League, Borussia Dortmund missed the reparation on the 24th matchday of the Bundesliga at FC Augsburg.
Despite being in the lead, BVB couldn’t get past a 1-1 (1-0) draw against a passionately fighting FCA. Thorgan Hazard gave BVB the lead after 35 minutes with a single action. Noah Sarenren Bazee equalized in the 78th minute.
In the table, BVB’s gap to leaders Bayern Munich has also increased by eight points. Augsburg, on the other hand, overtakes Hertha BSC in the table thanks to the better goal difference and leaves the relegation place.
Gregoritsch heads next to the post
In a fast-paced initial phase, FC Augsburg signed up first. Michael Gregoritsch headed just wide of the post after a corner. A short time later, BVB also had good chances thanks to Mo Dahoud. The midfielder first got stuck on Jeffrey Gouweleeuw’s leg (11′) and then failed to get past goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz (13′).
BVB, who, in addition to the injured Erling Haaland, also had to do without captain Marco Reus and Thomas Meunier, then took control of the game. Dortmund didn’t create any clear chances against stable Augsburgers.

In the end it was a one-off action that gave Dortmund the lead. Hazard dribbled into the penalty area from the right, left three Augsburg players standing and put the ball in the far corner with his right (35′). FCA then rewarded themselves for their efforts seven minutes later. Ruben Vargas entered the penalty area on the left and crossed into the middle. After several stops, the ball landed at Sarenren Bazee, who headed the ball under the crossbar and into the goal from six yards out.
In a wild final phase, both teams looked for the way forward again. However, no team created more than half chances, so the division of points lasted until the final whistle.
Augsburg in Bielefeld, Dortmund in Mainz
Augsburg will continue in Bielefeld next Friday (March 4th, 2022, 8:30 p.m.). Dortmund have to play in Mainz on Sunday (03/06/2022, 3:30 p.m.).
