Building Minister Klara Geywitz and climate protection: Don’t mess up – culture

from

“I don’t have to build the houses myself. It’s a management task.” This is how the new building minister, Klara Geywitz, describes her job in her first interview as head of the now independent ministry. The SPD politician is of course right. Geywitz shouldn’t build houses. On the other hand, her job view of one of the most important ministerial posts in this country is sobering. Because anyone who understands building as a purely management task runs the risk of surrendering to all the myths that make this rich country look so poor in terms of architecture. What is needed at the moment is a building turnaround – not the oiling of a construction and housing industry that has been misaligned for decades.
