Brutal: “Battles” based on Heiner Müller at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin – culture

There it is again, the good old world explanation theater in frontal teaching style. Thanks to the teachings in Berlin’s Maxim Gorki Theater, one isn’t any wiser afterwards, but at least one got it in writing that humanity does not always tend towards peaceful manners. Brave interns had to google data from numerous wars in world history, now the scenes, the year and the number of deaths move in long columns across the screens and are massively projected onto the ceiling and the walls of the theater. You don’t know whether it’s cynical or sad or just meant to be striking that the actors sing John Lennon’s peace anthem “Imagine”.
