Three days before the Tony Awards, Brooke Shields had surgery on both feet. But she still didn’t want to miss the gala.

Slippers with an elegant evening dress? Why not, thought actress Brooke Shields (59). She made a virtue out of necessity: Since she could not wear high heels due to an operation on her feet, she came to the Tony Awards on June 16th in Crocs.

Only the second look showed her shoes

At first, the unusual choice of shoes for an elegant evening event – the theater and musical awards are among the most important prizes in the US show business – did not attract any attention. The actress shone on the carpet at the Lincoln Center in New York in a bright yellow dress. It featured a low neckline, a sequined top, a bow at the waist, a pleated skirt and a slit in the middle of the back.

But then the Crocs flashed out from under the long robe. The US magazine “People” Shields admitted: “I couldn’t do that with high heels.” But she didn’t seem to have a problem with the break in style: she willingly lifted her dress for the photographers and presented her shoes. In another interview, the actress laughed and said that the plastic slippers were at least the “right color.” “So it’s perfect.” In addition to the yellow Crocs, the 59-year-old wore a square gold clutch, several bracelets on her left wrist and pearl earrings as additional accessories.

Her feet have been bothering her for years

Just three days before the event, Brooke Shields had to undergo surgery on both feet. She had had a “double toe operation,” she announced on her Instagram account on June 15. She posted a photo of her bandaged feet. The actress has been suffering from pain for many years. In 2008, she revealed that she had damaged her feet from wearing high heels. At that time, she had already had an operation – and presented a very similar look on the red carpet. She combined a pink halter neck dress with neon pink Crocs.

Brooke Shields, who became known through the film “The Blue Lagoon” (1980), has performed on Broadway several times. She played in “Wonderful Town,” “Chicago,” “Cabaret,” “Grease,” and “The Addams Family.” She told “People” that she would return to the stage immediately.

Back on Broadway soon?

“Broadway welcomed me when no one else welcomed me. I started going to Broadway when I was a little girl, so for me it’s a part of my life,” says Shields, who is also president of the Actors Equity Association. “I would like to do a comedy or a drama.” Normally she is only booked as a substitute. So it would be “exciting” and “a great honor” for her to be in the front row for once. “Wherever someone wants me.” She proved once again on Sunday that not even bad feet can stop her.
