It’s the first Christmas without Prince Philip. But the Queen will not be alone.

The British Queen Elizabeth II (95) will spend Christmas Day with her eldest son Prince Charles (73) and his wife Duchess Camilla (74). This was announced by a spokesman for the heir to the throne.

The Queen had recently severely restricted her Christmas plans because of the rapidly spreading omicron variant of the corona virus in Great Britain.

The Queen can use company. It’s the first Christmas since the death of her husband, Prince Philip, to whom she had been married since 1947. The Prince Consort died in April at the age of 99. It remained unclear whether other family members in addition to Charles and Camilla would come to the Queen for Christmas.

The traditional pre-Christmas family dinner, to which children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as the queen’s cousins are invited, was canceled at short notice by the queen. The Queen is also foregoing her usual stay at her country estate Sandringham in the eastern English county of Norfolk this year.
