Breakfast in Munich: Tips for New Year’s Day 2023 – Munich

Cotidiano

The Cotidiano has long since become a classic among Munich’s neighborhood cafés – because both vegans and meat lovers will find something to eat here all day long. At the start of the new year you can treat yourself to the “Pancake Tower with chocolate sauce”. The chain can now be found at five locations in the cityfour of which are open on New Year’s Day, albeit at different times, a look at the Website of the Cotidiano so worth it. Reservations are not possible in the restaurants on public holidays. So: first come, first served.

Rosi coffee house

In a pretty old building in a prime location – the Deutsches Museum, the Müllersche Volksbad and the Kino Museum Lichtspiele are only a stone’s throw away the “Rosi coffee house”. The industrial charm of the furnishings blends in well with the large room with the high ceilings. The many lightbulbs that shine at passers-by on the way from the Isar to the Gasteig are particularly characteristic. The choice is diverse. The breakfast combos are particularly opulent. For example, there is Bircher muesli with fruit salad and a freshly squeezed juice or a pair of white sausages with pretzels, sweet mustard, ham and Obazda.

That Cafe at Beethovenplatz, known to most as Mariandl, is said to be the oldest concert café in Munich. This is also how the breakfast menu reads: the dishes are named after famous composers, and a more or less typical breakfast is prepared according to their nationality. If you like it Italian-elegant, order “Vivaldi” and get Parma ham, Milanese salami, olives, Italian cheese and bruschette. “Tchaikovsky” is also stylish and sophisticated, with salmon, creamed horseradish, cranberry cream and tuna cream. If you like it heartier, we recommend the American composer Gershwin with fried eggs, bacon, muffins, toast, cream cheese and cornflakes. On New Year’s Day, guests can have breakfast from 10 a.m. in the Mariandl.
