“Tied” star Oliver Masucci has sent a letter to the acid barrel killer Lutz Reinstrom. So far, however, there has been no answer.

Actor Oliver Masucci (54) sent a letter to the Hamburg acid barrel killer Lutz Reinstrom. So far he has “received no answer” Masucci revealed to “Bild am Sonntag” in the interview. “I don’t know if he got the letter though.”

Masucci plays a character based on the acid barrel killer in the new Amazon series “German Crime Story: Tied Up” with Raik Doormann. In general, he would be tempted to meet Reinstrom, he explained. “I’m not afraid of him. Would have been interested in what you see when you look him in the eye. Probably nothing,” says the actor.

That’s what “German Crime Story: Bound” is about

The notorious acid barrel murderer Raik Doormann (Masucci) terrified the Hamburg area in the early 1980s and 1990s: he abducted, tortured and brutally killed women in his own nuclear bunker. Only the victim advisor and later homicide detective Nela Langenbeck (Angelina Häntsch, 38) comes across clues about his actions. Despite all resistance within the male-dominated police department, she finally gets on the track of Doorman and his cruel deeds. Lutz Reinstrom’s case served as inspiration for the story.

Masucci had the case “no longer on the pan”

Before he took over the role, Masucci no longer had the case “on the pan”, he revealed to the “Bild am Sonntag”. But the more he got involved with it, the “more dazzling” Reinstrom became for him. “A fur seller in an existential crisis. Treasure hunters in Costa Rica. Swimming club. This smugness that is in the story is so absurd,” says the mime. “Down in the basement lies the abyss, the horror, above it is the terraced house with the wife and child and the front yard, where people grill, dig and bury.”

The fact that the worst things happen in the neighbors’ basement – even in broad daylight – has concerned him “for a long time,” said Masucci. “By the way, most crimes happen in the circle of acquaintances.”

“German Crime Story: Tied Up” has been available on Amazon Prime Video since January 13, 2023.
