Borussia Mönchengladbach has separated from coach Daniel Farke. His successor Gerardo Seoane should now judge what his predecessor failed to do. The club hopes for more successful times.

Gerardo Seoane is the new coach at Borussia Mönchengladbach. The 44-year-old Swiss succeeds Daniel Farke and receives a three-year contract with the Bundesliga club from the Lower Rhine. “Gerardo Seoane has worked successfully in various positions in recent years. He is a young but experienced coach who fits our approach to football and we are happy to have him at Borussia Mönchengladbach from now on,” said Gladbach’s sporting director Roland Virkus quoted in a club announcement on Tuesday.

Seoane, who was born in Lucerne, had last worked at Bayer Leverkusen and was replaced there by Xabi Alonso at the beginning of October. In Gladbach he should now accompany and shape the upcoming upheaval.

In addition to the appointment of a new head coach, Borussia also presented a new sporting director in Nils Schmadtke. The 34-year-old son of the new Liverpool sports director Jörg Schmadtke most recently worked as head of the scouting department at VfL Wolfsburg. “With these personnel decisions, we are broadening our sporting leadership,” said Virkus. “Nils Schmadtke will take over the organizational management of the license area. In future he will be part of the sporting management team of our license area alongside Steffen Korell (director of scouting and squad planning) and myself.”

After a season analysis, Borussia announced the expected separation from Farke last Friday. The 46-year-old didn’t manage to convince those responsible at Borussia last season. As in the previous year, Gladbach finished tenth in the league. The team has had many problems for a long time, so Seoane’s task will be correspondingly difficult. Borussia has scheduled the start of training for July 9th. Two weeks later we go to the training camp at Tegernsee.
