Booking.com poll: The 10 most welcoming cities in the world

Looking for inspiration for your next trip? Especially at the beginning of the year, when winter drags on in this country, wanderlust sets in. Many people use the first few months of the year to plan their vacation. Most countries have now lifted almost all corona restrictions. The choice of travel destinations is correspondingly high. Early booking might be worth it. Experts from the comparison portal Check24 pointed this out to the newspapers of the Funke media group. “Flights to popular holiday regions are often much more expensive if they are booked later,” said Christian Meier, Flight Managing Director at Check24.

Booking.com awards the most hospitable cities

According to Meier, travelers save 26 percent if they book flights for their summer vacation in January instead of July. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, as the travel industry expects high occupancy and hopes to recoup losses from the pandemic years. Added to this is inflation, which is driving prices up further. It can be assumed that the price level will not fall over the course of the summer. Therefore, early bird discounts are more attractive, confirms Tui Germany boss Stefan Baumert.

This does not detract from the desire to travel. In an online survey by the travel portal Booking.com, 47 percent of Germans stated that they wanted to experience travel adventures again in 2023. Bookings for the summer season have gotten off to a good start over the past few months. “We see a strong start in the entire travel market, and the proportion of early bookers is also increasing significantly compared to last year,” reports the Tui boss of the German Press Agency.

But in 2022, too, numerous travelers were drawn far away again. The portal Booking.com rewarded the most hospitable holiday destinations with the Traveler Review Award. The award is based on over 240 million customer ratings and thus on the personal experience of the holidaymaker. Worldwide, 1.36 million accommodation partners in a total of 220 countries have received an award. The cities with the highest density of excellent accommodation have also been compiled into a list. This shows the ten most hospitable cities in the world. The winners are spread across five continents and “comprise hidden coastal paradises, rural destinations surrounded by breathtaking nature and a lively Latin American metropolis,” Booking.com writes in a statement. A German city also made it into the top ten.
