Bomb threats prompt the evacuation of several schools in France

Bomb threats caused the evacuation of several schools throughout France on Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 January 2023. The colleges and high schools concerned received the messages on the digital workspaces (ENT).

Threats of bombings or explosives have multiplied in around twenty schools in France, this Monday January 2 and Tuesday January 3, 2023 reveals BFM-TV. Principals evacuated students in doubt. The threats were sent via the ENT, the digital workspace, reports several media.

Several cities throughout France concerned

According to police sources fromWest France, messages were sent on January 2 and 3 to students’ ENT accounts. In order to “remove doubt”establishments were evacuated in Seine-et-Marne as well as in La Madeleine (Nord), Lille (Nord), Rillieux-la-Pape (Rhône), Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), Caen (Calvados) or again Carvin (Pas-de-Calais).

At the Baggio de Lille high school, a source close to the investigation says that “the ENT account of a student who sent an email” announcing that he was going to blow up the school. “The account holder was arrested and taken into custody on Monday but released because his account was hacked.explains this same source to our colleagues.

A prevention message sent to principals

“Everywhere in France, high schools are recipients of emails threatening attacks on ENT” but “thethe senders of the emails are not the authors“, said the source, who also adds that “the cybercrime unit is associated very closely with the investigation”.

The rectorate of Lille, for its part, let it be known to BFM-TV one “message will be sent to all principals asking them to be vigilant and to notify the police”.
