Blocked Twitter accounts: Musk votes on “general amnesty”.

Last week, Musk let his users decide whether to unlock ex-President Trump’s account. Now he offers a choice as to whether blocked accounts should generally be unblocked again.

Twitter owner Elon Musk has started a survey on the short message service for the general activation of blocked accounts. “Should Twitter offer a general amnesty for suspended accounts?” the billionaire asked Twitter users on Wednesday. Exceptions are accounts that violate the law or “have run outrageous spam”.

The survey runs until the evening. So far, more than 2.6 million people have taken part. So far, 73 percent of those surveyed are in favor of the “general amnesty”, 27 percent voted against it (as of 7:30 a.m.). After buying Twitter, Musk originally announced that a decision on banned accounts would only be made after a “Content Moderation Council” had been set up.

Musk unblocked Trump’s account

Last week, Musk launched a Twitter poll asking whether the platform should unlock former US President Donald Trump again. Of the more than 15 million participants, 51.8 percent voted in favor: his user account was released again. The Republican has not tweeted since then. Trump’s account was suspended by the service’s previous management after the storming of the Capitol in January 2021.
