Deep “Franziska” caused mirror-smooth streets in many places in Lower Saxony, especially on Monday morning and morning. The police reported numerous accidents due to the weather conditions. By noon, the control center in the Hanover region registered 136 rescue operations as a result of black ice. Most of the time it was sheet metal damage.

Black ice: A driver dies on the A27

However, a 25-year-old driver died on Autobahn 27 near Walsrode-Hamwiede after losing control of his vehicle on a slippery road, breaking through the guardrail and hitting a tree. According to the police, there were around 100 traffic accidents in the Göttingen area. On Autobahn 7, the driver of a small van suffered life-threatening injuries because, for unknown reasons, he had hit a bus at the end of a traffic jam. According to the Göttingen motorway police, the traffic jam had formed due to the weather.

Buses and trains were also affected by the weather

The smoothness also caused restrictions in local traffic: Until the morning, for example, bus traffic in Salzgitter and Wolfenbüttel had been stopped. Also in Goettingen, Hann. Münden and Holzminden were canceled many buses. Some long-distance trains were delayed because the train said it had to slow down due to the freezing rain and the slippery surface. Hamburg: Gymnasium as a sighting point for surgical emergencies

Ice accidents were also reported from Hamburg, as reported by NDR 90.3. The emergency services were called to around 240 operations throughout the city on Monday morning and morning.
