The police are registering more drug-related crimes in 2023. Cocaine is the main target.

Last year, investigators recorded more than 346,000 drug-related crimes in Germany and seized dozens of tons of drugs. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) in Wiesbaden announced that there was an increase of 1.8 percent in crimes compared to the previous year.

There was an increase in both consumption and trade. The increase was particularly strong in crimes involving Cocaine was the most common drug (27.4 percent), reaching a new record high. Around 43 tons of this drug alone were seized in 2023, more than twice as much as in the previous year. At around two-thirds, cannabis-related offenses accounted for the highest proportion of all recorded crimes.
