Bitcoin exchange Bitrue suffered a hot wallet hack that allowed attackers to withdraw almost $23 million worth of various digital assets.
On April 14, Bitrue sayIt said it was necessary to temporarily suspend all withdrawals due to hot wallet attacks. The company expects to reopen withdrawals on April 18, 2023 after conducting additional security checks.
Bitrue emphasizes that it can fix problems quickly. which further increases the platform’s withdrawal protection. “We take this matter very seriously and are currently investigating the situation,” Bitrue said, adding that the affected hot wallets accounted for less than 5% of the exchange’s total funds.
“The rest of our wallets remain safe and uncompromised. We are conducting a thorough security review and will update you as progress is made.”
Bitrue management has promised to compensate users affected by the incident. Currencies affected by the compromised hot wallets include Ether, Shiba Inu, Quant (QNT), Gala, Holo (HOT), and Polygon.
