Bit noise, the processor podcast: Intel Core i-14000, the last one with “i”

c’t’s bi-weekly processor podcast is available…

The code name “Raptor Lake Refresh” already suggests it: Intel’s Core i-14000 desktop CPU series is a refresh of the Core i-13000 series, aka Raptor Lake, which was introduced around a year ago. The newcomers also run on the same motherboards with the LGA1700 version. But they bring new functions such as AI-supported Application Optimization (APO). And the Core i7-14700K also has a few more cores than its direct predecessor, the Core i7-13700K.

In the Bit-Rauschen podcast, c’t editors Christian Hirsch and Christof Windeck don’t just talk about the improvements that the Core i-14000 brings. They also look at Intel’s plans for 2024: Then the “i” will probably be dropped from the name of desktop PC processors, and “Core Ultras” will probably come.

Christian Hirsch recently measured for c’t what specific advantages faster and slightly more expensive DDR5 RAM brings compared to DDR4 RAM on the Core i-13000. All of this in the 2023/22 episode of “Bit-Noise: The processor podcast from c’t”.

Podcast Bit-Noise, episode 2023/22:

Magazine column Bit-Noise from c’t 24/2023: The “Europrocessor” Rhea1 starts in the supercomputer Jupiter

The first European exaflops computer with European processors will be launched in this country in 2024. Intel Ireland produces finer structures and Qualcomm is supposedly shooting itself in the foot.
