Frankfurt – A touch of the IAA blows through the exhibition halls.

There hasn’t been such a big show in Frankfurt since 2019. Important for the trade fair, the business location Frankfurt – and especially the automotive industry.

And that after the shock that Frankfurt still has to digest that the international auto show IAA has moved to Munich. The background was a lack of interest on the part of the city of Frankfurt, the now controversial Mayor Peter Feldmann (63, SPD) and protests by a minority, how often loud.

Not to forget, everyone benefits when the exhibitions are successful: the trade fair is owned by the city of Frankfurt and the state of Hesse.

Because whether combustion engine, electric, e-fuel or hydrogen – all drive types are available at the world’s largest trade fair.

By the way, EVERYONE can point to them. Admission from 28 euros. Opening hours: Until 16.9. from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., 17.9. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The industry itself is looking forward to the return of the car to Messe Frankfurt. Rolf Sudmann, from Continental: “We at Conti-Tech are 100 percent behind Automechanika Frankfurt, as it is the leading trade fair for us.” Jens Schüler from Schaeffler: “We are delighted to be part of the restart of Automechanika Frankfurt in the usual format be.”

2800 exhibitors are in Frankfurt. Although there were no exhibitors from China, Russia, Ukraine, etc.

Exhibition boss Detlef Braun (60): “Of the exhibitors, 83 percent come from abroad, from a total of around 70 countries. In 2018, 86 percent came from 76 countries. The trade fair, which takes place across the entire exhibition grounds, thus achieves a level of internationality on the exhibitor side that is comparable to the anniversary edition in 2018.”

You can hear the confusion of languages ​​in the corridors, English, Italian, French. People in turbans, suits, veils, mini-skirts scurry through the halls.

Visitors carry suitcases full of goods up the escalators, people trade, negotiate, discuss, present, compare, laugh and talk.

Braun: “However, we regret that in times of ongoing pandemic-related restrictions in China with the zero-Covid-Policy and the war, we can hardly welcome any exhibitors from the affected countries.”

At over 200,000 square meters, the area is larger than that of the last IAA. Automechanika takes place in Halls 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11 and 12. Plus outdoor area. Hall 5 is currently being rebuilt for 220 million euros.

E-fuels as a battery alternative

But the outdoor area is also great: hands-on activities from e-scooter driving, battery-powered competitor e-fuels, caravanning.

Highlight: On Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. Sidney Hoffmann (43, PS professional) will be at the Agora for an autograph session. The most beautiful hall is number 12. Here you can see everything to do with classic cars, tuning and creativity.
