In the USA, federal employees will be required to be vaccinated against the coronavirus in the future. That is what the US government said. Large companies are also to receive stricter guidelines when it comes to vaccination and testing.
U.S. federal government and administration employees must be vaccinated against the coronavirus on instructions from President Joe Biden. This also applies to federal contractors and their employees. The US government wants to become a role model for other organizations and companies in the country to increase the vaccination rate against Covid-19, said the spokeswoman for the White House, Jen Psaki.
Only a few exceptions
Tests are no longer an option. Biden’s goal is “to reduce the number of unvaccinated Americans,” said Paski in view of the rampant delta variant in the US, which kills thousands every week and threatens economic recovery. There are only exceptions to the vaccination requirement for religious and medical reasons, said Psaki.
Employees now have 75 days to receive full vaccination protection. Anyone who does not do so will be summoned to the HR department for a consultation; the final consequence could be the termination of the employment relationship. Previously, Biden had required federal workers to either get vaccinated or to undergo tests and comply with mask requirements.
Compulsory vaccination or test for large companies
With a six-point plan, Biden aims to cope with the surge in coronavirus cases in the United States and get more vaccinations. This now apparently also includes an extensive vaccination and test obligation for larger companies. The US government wants to require companies with more than 100 employees that all employees must be vaccinated or have to be tested for an infection with the corona virus at least once a week. The regulation is currently being developed under the leadership of the Department of Labor and will apply to more than 80 million private sector employees, the White House said
In addition, all employees in hospitals and health care facilities who accept payments from state health insurances will have to be vaccinated against Corona in the future. The regulation will apply to around 17 million employees, it said. The state programs Medicare and Medicaid mainly cover the elderly, the disabled and the needy.
