“If I win a medal, I would be very happy,” said the 29-year-old before the final mass start (12.30 p.m. / ARD and Eurosport) in Thuringia. With another podium place over 15 kilometers on the Rennsteig, Bö is the first male ski hunter to win the seventh medal at his seventh World Championship start.

But it won’t be a sure-fire success. “We see that the favorite on paper does not always have to be the winner,” said Bö on Saturday after silver with the relay. After five gold medals, the long-term winner and his team-mates surprisingly had to admit defeat to France. “At the end of the day we’re disappointed because we don’t have the gold,” said Bö: “Hats off to the French, we just couldn’t win.” Nevertheless, he also feels good with silver: “Six medals are just fantastic.”
Bö’s compatriot Marte Olsbu Röiseland is so far the only biathlete who has won seven medals at a World Championships in seven starts. The 32-year-old succeeded in 2020 in Antholz, Italy.
