Biathlete Roman Rees just missed his second podium place of the season in the sprint at the dress rehearsal for the World Championships.

The 29-year-old from Freiburg finished fourth in Antholz, Italy, after a penalty loop and secured a decent starting position for the pursuit race on Saturday (3 p.m. / ZDF and Eurosport). After ten kilometers, Rees was 19.4 seconds behind in third place. He had already occupied this rank in this discipline at the season opener in Kontiolahti.

The Norwegian Johannes Thingnes Bö not only celebrated his fifth consecutive individual victory in fantastic winter weather, the 29-year-old remains undefeated in the sprint this winter even after the sixth competition.

Despite one penalty, the five-time Olympic champion was unbeatable and won ahead of Sweden’s Martin Ponsiluoma (1 penalty) and his Norwegian compatriot Sturla Holm Laegreid (0). Rees finished 56.7 seconds behind Dominator Bö.

The second best German was the flawless Justus Strelow in ninth place, ex-world champion Benedikt Doll (3) still managed twelfth place thanks to a strong mileage. David Zobel (2) was 33rd, Philipp Nawrath (3) was hardly able to convince as 39th and Johannes Kühn (4) even had to settle for 54th place.
