Beyoncé is Oscar-eligible with her new track from the “King Richard” soundtrack

Will we finally see Beyoncé nominated for the Oscars? It is very likely, if we believe the first reactions after the screening of King richard at the Telluride Film Festival. The singer recorded a brand new track, Be Alive, for the soundtrack of the feature film dedicated to Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams.

And Be Alive, produced with DIXSON, may well land her in the Oscar nominees list, with the film coming out at the right time to be eligible. This would be the singer’s first Oscar nomination in the “Best Original Song” category.

Beyoncé’s non-selection at the Oscars last year (when she was eligible thanks to Spirit, on the soundtrack of the remake of Lion King) had created a mini-scandal. The Academy could therefore choose to correct its “mistake”, according to the LA Times.

“There is no way the Academy will snub her again after the fiasco of Spirit, the hymn of Lion King, which was not selected because voters could not help but give another nomination to Diane Warren, “writes the daily, which believes that only Beyoncé could” save “the Oscars, which are struggling to generate enthusiasm for several years.

In addition, in 2007 already, the snub of the Oscars had been scathing. Beyoncé shared the poster of Dreamgirls, with the one who was then an aspiring singer from the telecrochet American Idol : Jennifer Hudson. It was the latter who had been nominated and voted Best Supporting Actress for her performance. Neither Beyoncé, nor the song she had written, had been accepted by the Academy.

King richard will be released in the United States on November 19.
