“Recently, there has been a resurgence of fake courier scams, particularly in Aveyron,” warn the gendarmes of this department in the south of France. The military urges the greatest caution in the face of this new scam.
The scammers first send a text message or call their victim. A few moments later, the victims are contacted by a person claiming to be a bank advisor, indicating that fraudulent withdrawals have been observed and that the transactions will be blocked. “The victim is then asked to cut their bank card in two, without touching the chip, before a fake courier comes to their home to collect it,” the police said.
“Be careful of the messages you receive”
Unfortunately, it is not their banker. Victims quickly notice withdrawals or purchases from their bank account. “Be vigilant about the messages you receive, whether by SMS or email,” specify the military, who advise not to click on suspicious links or respond to any request that has not been initiated. “Never share your sensitive information and do not give your bank card, even if cut in two, to anyone,” they remind.
