Children throwing themselves into their grandparents’ arms and mothers who hardly recognize their own daughters and sons: It’s videos like this that produce touching moments every year for the Chinese New Year celebrations. Many workers can only afford to travel to their home villages once a year. During the corona pandemic, some were not at home for three years and have not seen their children since 2020. In many places, the village leaders did not let any foreigners into the village for months, and others could not pay for the forced quarantine when they returned.
