Bertrand Tavernier, director of “L’horloger de Saint-Paul”, is dead

A multi-award winning director and screenwriter, he was also an ogre of cinephilia. Bertrand Tavernier is dead announced the Institut Lumière de Lyon, which he directed, this Thursday. He was 79 years old.

“With his wife Sarah, his children Nils and Tiffany and his grandchildren, the Lumière Institute and Thierry Frémaux have the sadness and the pain to inform you of the disappearance, today, of Bertrand Tavernier”, tweeted the institution dedicated to the 7th art.

Born in April 1941 in Lyon, the cradle of cinema which has always remained his home town, Bertrand Tavernier received five Césars throughout his career, which began in the early 1960s. Quai d’Orsay, released in 2013, is his last feature film.
