Berlin: public prosecutor’s office searches the headquarters of the AfD – policy

The federal office of the AfD was apparently searched by the police and the Berlin public prosecutor’s office on Wednesday. The AfD parliamentary group announced this itself, but the public prosecutor’s office has not yet confirmed it.

The parliamentary group did not say which allegation the investigators were investigating and whether the action was related to the AfD’s donation scandal – only that there was no inquiry from the AfD “because of the facts to be clarified”. A spokesman for the federal party told the dpa that it was primarily about an investigation against former party leader Jörg Meuthen in connection with earlier reports.

The two co-party leaders Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla criticized the approach. Weidel described it as an “extremely unusual and extremely disproportionate measure to intimidate the AfD”. According to Chrupalla, “entire hard drives, mailboxes and file folders were copied”.
