Around two years after a traffic accident with four deaths in downtown Berlin, the trial of the driver began on Wednesday. The public prosecutor’s office accuses the 44-year-old man of negligent homicide and negligent endangerment of road traffic. The defendant’s SUV hit a traffic light on Invalidenstrasse on September 6, 2019, rolled over several times and hit pedestrians on the sidewalk. Four people died, including a three-year-old boy. Because of the medical questions alone, extensive evidence can be assumed. From the point of view of the public prosecutor’s office, the defendant should not have been behind the wheel of the heavy car because of problems with his health. The court is initially planning 20 trial days until the beginning of February 2022 to clear up what happened.
