Berchtesgaden – Missed the way – 58-year-old crashes in the Alps and dies – Bavaria

A 58-year-old got lost, fell and died while climbing in the mountain. The third fatal mountain accident in the region within a week happened on Saturday lunchtime between little Watzmann and first Watzmann child, as the Berchtesgaden police station announced.

Together with his companions, the 58-year-old from the Freyung-Grafenau district wanted to climb the little Watzmann over the so-called crawl belt. On the approach, they missed the actual route, as it was said, in crumbling and confusing terrain. While trying to climb a piece, the man slipped.

He fell about 60 meters. He remained lying in a rubble gutter. His companions immediately made an emergency call – but the emergency doctor from an Austrian rescue helicopter could only determine that he was dead.

A 71-year-old from Saxony had a fatal accident while hiking in the Berchtesgaden Alps in the middle of this week. The man left alone on Wednesday for the Hohen Gerstfeld on the Reiteralpe, as the police said. The wife reported him missing a day later. After several hours of searching, a helicopter crew found the missing person who had obviously crashed – far away from any paths, climbs and climbing steps.

On Saturday before, a tourist from the USA fell to his death on the Jenner (1,874 meters) just below the summit cross. The 73-year-old lost his balance and fell about 110 meters through rocky terrain, the police said. He succumbed to his injuries at the crash site. According to the information, the man was traveling with a tour group.
