Berchtesgaden: Fatal mountain accident on the Hoher Göll – Bavaria

Last Thursday, a 60-year-old woman set off from Berchtesgaden on a mountain hike through the Göllstock mountains. Her goal was the Hohe Brett, the second highest peak after the Hoher Göll. When a relative did not hear from the hiker until the next day, she reported the woman missing to the Grassau police station.

According to the police, several teams of mountain rescue and alpine police searched the nearby trails in the alpine terrain. The Alpine task force of the Bavarian border police and the mountain rescue teams from Berchtesgaden and Chiemgau were also deployed, as was the Austrian alpine police. The Golling mountain rescue team searched the Bluntau valley. According to the police, several drones flew through the mountains in search of the missing person. The police helicopter did not take off due to the bad weather.

Thanks to a cell phone tracking system, the search area was narrowed down. On Friday afternoon, the woman was found dead by the Golling mountain rescue team at the foot of the Hoher Brett. The mountaineer had had an accident about 300 meters above the Oberjochalm. According to police, the 60-year-old fell several hundred meters through steep and partially vertical terrain. How the fatal mountain accident came about is still being investigated.
