This Tuesday, during his back-to-school press conference, the mayor of Marseille Benoît Payan confirmed his departure from the rose party.
While socialist activists are called upon to elect their next Prime Secretary, one of the two candidates still in the running and current Prime Secretary, Olivier Faure, thanked Benoît Payan for his support in a tweet published during this press conference. Asked about this tweet, the mayor clarified his position vis-à-vis his original party.
A PS congress at the end of the month
“I do not vote for the Socialist Party since I am no longer a member of the Socialist Party, recalls Benoît Payan. It’s been my party for a very long time. This is the vision of my thought. But I made the choice, from where I am, not to belong to any party. And for all that, I follow the political news of my country and my political family. I don’t believe in the battle of leaders, of chapels. I don’t believe in division. And so, today, in the Socialist Party, there is a voice which, in my opinion, constitutes the meaning of history and the meaning of unity. And indeed, it collects the adhesion of my thought. »
Benoît Payan indicated that he would be present and that he would speak at the next PS congress to be held in Marseilles from January 27 to 29. The pro-Nupes line, promoted by Olivier Faure, ended Friday at the top of the Socialists’ vote but its challenger Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, who received the support of the third candidate Hélène Geoffroy, still hopes to win on January 19.
