Austria’s former chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer is sometimes difficult to reach for the press these days and weeks. Real estate magnate René Benko’s confidante doesn’t even respond to some inquiries, which is probably understandable. Benko’s empire is in decline. Signa Holding, the umbrella company of the widespread real estate and trading group, is insolvent. This is all certainly very unpleasant for the ex-chancellor too.
