Benedict Cumberbatch has unveiled his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In his acceptance speech, he struck a serious note.

Special honor for Benedict Cumberbatch (45): The “Sherlock” star unveiled his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The British actor is one of more than 2,700 people who were honored for their services to American show business.

His wife Sophie Hunter (43) accompanied Cumberbatch to the ceremony. The theater maker has been married to the actor since 2015. The couple have three young sons. “You are my little stars,” Cumberbatch gushed about the kids at the gala.

Kevin Feige (48), head of Marvel Studios, gave a speech. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Cumberbatch embodies the superhero Doctor Strange in several films. Feige acknowledged the performer’s versatility, whether as Hamlet on stage or for Marvel on screen. JJ Abrams (55) was also a guest speaker. The director portrayed the honoree in 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness.

Benedict Cumberbatch also thanked his parents. He is the son of the actor couple Timothy Carlton (82) and Wanda Ventham (86). However, he also struck a serious note in his speech. He spoke about the victims of the corona pandemic, the climate crisis – and of course about the war in Ukraine. His thoughts are with the people of the country attacked by Russia. But he also supports the Russians who speak out against the war.

Benedict Cumberbatch was already a well-established actor in theater and television when he rose to stardom in the 2010 series Sherlock. Until 2017, he played a modern reimagining of the cult detective Sherlock Holmes. The blockbuster breakthrough on the big screen brought “Doctor Strange” (2016) at the latest.

At the Oscars on March 27, 2022, Benedict Cumberbatch is nominated for Best Actor. In the neo-western “The Power of the Dog” he plays a mean rancher. He is one of the top favorites alongside Will Smith (53, “King Richard”). Cumberbatch earned his first Oscar nomination in 2015 for The Imitation Game.
