Benedict Cumberbatch has joked about fellow actor Will Smith and his remembered slap in the face to Chris Rock.

Benedict Cumberbatch (45) joked about how Will Smith (53) “beat” him at the Oscars. during his “Saturday Night Live” monologues Last Saturday, the actor recalled Smith’s notorious slap in the face to Chris Rock (57).

The “Doctor Strange” star would only be known by “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels (77) for this one role, he explains. He was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor for Power of the Dog. “Nobody saw it,” Michaels said of the film. However, his colleague Smith “beat” him during the Oscars. “Not physically! Not physically,” jokes the 45-year-old and laughs.

Oscar ban after slap

Half an hour after the unforgettable incident, Smith won his first Oscar for his film “King Richard”. His competitors were Cumberbatch, Javier Bardem (53), Andrew Garfield (38) and Denzel Washington (67). Smith has set out to defend his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, 50, from Rock, who joked about her shaved head. After the scandal, the actor is not allowed to take part in the event for ten years. That was decided by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
