Ben Schwarz elected the new District Administrator of Roth – Bavaria

Change after almost 30 years: Ben Schwarz becomes the new District Administrator of the district of Roth in Middle Franconia. The candidate, supported by the SPD and the Greens, received 63.9 percent of the votes in Sunday’s runoff. This emerges from the information provided by the district office on the election result. Schwarz will be the successor to the long-serving District Administrator Herbert Eckstein. The SPD politician had been in office since 1993 and had won the four subsequent elections. The 67-year-old resigned from his position prematurely for health reasons. His deputy has been running the business since April.

The candidate from the CSU, Jochen Münch, was defeated in the runoff with 36.1 percent of the votes. Voter turnout was 43 percent. In the first round of elections at the end of April, none of the three candidates had achieved an absolute majority. That’s why there was a runoff. At that time, Münch had won 27.1 percent of the votes, while Schwarz only just missed an absolute majority with 49.4 percent of the votes.

Schwarz is the mayor of Georgensgmünd and a member of the district council. His competitor Münch works as a journalist.
