At the end of 2022, ZDF sports commentator Béla Réthy said goodbye. However, he will be heard again soon – in a new documentary.

After more than three decades at ZDF, Béla Réthy (66) said goodbye to the controversial World Cup 2022 in Qatar at the end of last year. The legendary sports journalist retired as a commentator after the semi-final between France and Morocco. Fans will probably hear his voice again soon.

Amazon Prime Video has announced that Réthy is the narrator in the four-part documentary All or Nothing: The Qatar National Team. The documentary series shows the path of the German national soccer team to and at the 2022 World Cup. It should not only be about the games on site in Qatar, but also about the preparations – in front of and behind the scenes. According to the announcement, it is Béla Réthy’s first engagement since leaving in December.

Béla Réthy’s last World Cup from a new perspective

“Never before and during a World Cup have there been so many controversial discussions as this time in Qatar – and not only about the sporting side, but above all about things off the field,” Béla Réthy is quoted as saying. The request for the narrator job made him “very happy” because he could experience his last World Cup “again from a completely different perspective”. He promises viewers “a very emotional and honest journey”.

All or Nothing: The Qatar National Team will be streamable exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. It is currently not known when exactly the documentary series will be released. It will probably be this year before the end of the year.
