Did you miss the news this morning? We have put together a summary to help you see things more clearly.
A one-year suspended prison sentence, with obligation of care, was requested against Nicolas Bedos for acts of sexual assault and harassment involving three women between 2018 and 2023. During his trial before the Paris Criminal Court, Nicolas Bedos repeatedly stated that he had no memory of the events, attributing his memory lapses to advanced intoxication. However, he denied having behaved inappropriately. “I am not a sexual aggressor, I never will be,” he insisted. The actor and director prefers to describe his behavior as “heaviness, flirtatiousness”, a “drunken act”. “I have no desire to impose something sexual on others,” he insisted as three women came to testify at the bar.
While traveling in Montreal, Emmanuel Macron faced virulent criticism from demonstrators denouncing France’s position in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. While he was wandering around in the crowd, he decided to go directly to meet them. Two of them, including a young Palestinian woman, particularly took him to task, accusing him of complicity with Israel. “It’s a genocide” underway in Gaza, said the latter, specifying that she had lost her daughter in the conflict. “You can stop it, you are providing diplomatic cover to the State of Israel,” she added. Emmanuel Macron tried to calm the situation by responding to the demonstrators point by point, opting for English in order to make himself understood.
This is the end. The Olympic rings hung on the Eiffel Tower since June have been removed. They will be – in principle – replaced by a more sustainable structure until 2028, as desired by Paris City Hall. And this despite the strong criticism that this project has raised, both among heritage defenders and among the descendants of Gustave Eiffel.
The initial structure, weighing thirty tons, was not designed to withstand winter weather conditions. While waiting for the new ones to be installed, smaller rings were hung on the Iéna bridge, just opposite, to “provide continuity”, according to the town hall.
