Bayreuth: Man freaks out in town hall – large police operation – Bavaria

A rioter in the town hall has triggered a major police operation in Bayreuth’s city center. The 25-year-old was apparently so dissatisfied with the service in the administrative headquarters that he threw objects across the room and cut a telephone cable with a pocket knife, police said.

A delivery service employee tried to stop the man as he was leaving the town hall. The 25-year-old then kicked the man in the shin. The rioter fled through the city center, whereupon the police sent out several patrols to search for him. In the meantime, officers called on the public to avoid the area around the central bus station and the main train station.

Patrol officers eventually arrested the 25-year-old and confiscated his pocket knife. There was no danger to the public, the police said. Because the 25-year-old was apparently in a state of psychological distress, a decision will be made as to whether he should be placed in a psychiatric hospital.
