Bavaria’s retail trade expects strong sales of carnival items – Bavaria

The Bavarian retail sector is expecting particularly strong sales of carnival items this year. After the many unusual events in the Corona years, there is a need to catch up, said Bernd Ohlmann, Managing Director of the Bavarian Trade Association, of the German Press Agency. Overall, he estimates the volume of carnival items for this year at around 40 million euros – especially in the carnival strongholds in Franconia.

Ohlmann does not believe that the increased prices and concerns of the people could put pressure on the business. It’s similar to the fireworks on New Year’s Eve: “Carnival is crisis-proof.” On the one hand, a real fool does not skimp on his child’s costume, on the other hand, he sees potential for a defiant reaction to the economic crisis.

Despite everything, carnival is by no means as important for retailers in Bavaria as it is in the Rhineland, says Ohlmann. And not like Valentine’s Day, which is about three weeks away.
