Now it’s out, and you think that all this could have been announced months ago. On Monday, the Bavarian Minister of Arts Markus Blume invited people to a press conference and announced that Serge Dorny’s contract as artistic director of the Bavarian State Opera will be extended by five years beyond 2026, as will that of the current ballet director Laurent Hilaire. Only the contract of General Music Director Vladimir Jurowski will receive a shorter extension, by two years from 2026.
