They were on their way from North Rhine-Westphalia on a skiing holiday – and had an accident in Upper Bavaria. Over 50 people were injured. But how did the bus accident happen?

After the bus accident with more than 50 injured ski vacationers from North Rhine-Westphalia, the investigations continue at the beginning of the week. Because many questions are still open.

According to the police, the coach left the road near Inzell on Saturday morning and tipped down an embankment. According to the police, there were 61 people in the double-decker – including children, adolescents and young adults. They were on their way to a skiing holiday in Kaprun, Austria, which is about 70 kilometers further south.

According to the fire department, hundreds of rescue workers from the region and six helicopters were on site for hours. According to reports from hospitals, the police counted a total of 52 injuries.

Bus accident near Inzell with 14 serious injuries

Among the victims are 14 seriously injured – one of them in the intensive care unit. The 58-year-old driver was slightly injured. Only nine people were uninjured.

How exactly the accident happened was initially unclear. According to initial findings, the investigators assumed at the weekend that the bus had left the road without third-party involvement. The public prosecutor’s office in Traunstein took over the investigation.

The police initially gave no information on the driving times. Not even to the question of whether there was a second driver. According to the police, the bus company is based in Beckum in the Warendorf district (NRW). It did not want to give any information on request.
