The inn is a biotope of Bavarian folk culture, but it is drying up. Appreciation of an institution that offered entertainers and revolutionaries a stage – and is not yet lost.

Several years ago, the cultural scientist Gert Raeithel wrote that he had read in a bar in Eggenfelden that “stupid brooding over a beer” was only allowed from half past ten. Raeithel, who wrote the standard ethnological work “Tief in Bayern” under the pseudonym RWB McCormack, was not surprised. Because this brooding is “a ceremonial that can last for many hours”. The actor Ulrich Tukur also said in an interview that he had found that in a good economy, time sometimes stands still for a while.
