That was quite a thing when Markus Söder said in January 2018 that ten years were enough for a prime minister. At the time, he wasn’t even in office, but he already announced that he would resign in 2028 if he was elected by then. “What you can’t do in ten years is no longer possible later,” said Söder in Kloster Banz. It should be a gesture of humility and a sign that there is a politician here who does not cling to power, unlike others. Now, also in Banz, the CSU boss throws his mind games from back then into the bin. In his keynote speech to the CSU parliamentary group on Wednesday, Söder said, according to participants: If the voters want him to run again after 2023, the term limit that he himself brought into play is no longer an exclusion criterion.
