Bavaria: Söder and Aiwanger visiting the Bierwang natural gas storage facility – Bavaria

Of

Maximilian Gerl and Matthias Köpf, Unterreit

Here in Bierwang, too, half a century ago it was already half a century since Bavaria supplied itself to a significant extent with fossil energy from its own deposits. In the 1960s, a natural gas field was developed in Bierwang, Unterreit municipality, Mühldorf district, in the middle of the hilly farmland between the Inn, Salzach and Chiemsee, as was the case in many other places in eastern Upper Bavaria. All these small deposits have long since been exploited, but there is still gas here in Bierwang. It is more than 1500 meters deep in the porous sandstone, level 28 percent, and rising.
