A good four months after the killing of a baby in a reception center for asylum seekers in Lower Franconia, the Schweinfurt public prosecutor has accused the mother of murder. The probably 27-year-old is said to have fatally injured the three-month-old girl in the neck area with a knife. “There is still no reliable knowledge of the motive for the crime,” said the authority on Monday. “According to the results of the investigation, the accused had no relevant restriction of culpability at the time of the crime.”
The woman from Somalia admitted the crime in Geldersheim near Schweinfurt, according to the public prosecutor. She has been in custody since the child’s death in early August. It is unclear exactly how old she is, since refugees sometimes come to Germany without papers and her age is then estimated. The district court of Schweinfurt must now decide whether to admit the charges.
