A horse got stuck in a shaft in Upper Palatinate and had to be freed by firefighters in a complex operation. The 27-year-old animal fell into a shaft on Monday on a property in Hocha, a district of Waldmünchen, and was unable to free its hind legs, a spokesman for the Cham district fire department said. When the owners’ rescue attempts failed, they called the fire department.
They arrived with a large number of forces and also called in a veterinarian for support. The veterinarian calmed the horse down. With the help of a telescopic loader and a special harness for rescuing large animals, the horse was finally freed from its predicament. Despite its advanced age, the animal was reportedly able to get back on its feet quickly and was then able to return to the stable.
