Bavaria: High prison sentences for fraud with train tickets – Bavaria

They bought a plethora of train tickets with stolen credit card data and resold them more expensively on the Internet: the Traunstein district court sentenced several members of a gang of fraudsters to long prison terms. The main defendant, who did not admit the allegations, was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison without parole, a federal police spokesman said on Wednesday. A spokeswoman for the district court in Traunstein confirmed the judgments that were made in June.

In addition to the prison sentence, the Great Criminal Court also ordered the confiscation of compensation in the amount of 250,000 euros from the 25-year-old mastermind of the gang. According to the information provided, three other defendants admitted their involvement in the crimes and were sentenced to three years and eight months, three years and seven months and two years and ten months’ imprisonment, as well as a value replacement of 150,000 euros.

Between October 2020 and December 2021, the federal police investigated the group of computer fraudsters between the ages of 24 and 36. They were accused of fraudulently booking online tickets from Deutsche Bahn between 2018 and 2021 using illegally obtained credit card data and then reselling them for high profits. The hearing before the district court in Traunstein involved 11,977 tickets and a financial loss of well over 400,000 euros. Another accomplice had already been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment in a separate trial in May.
