Bavaria almost as satisfied as before Corona – Bavaria

The war in Ukraine and the general mood of crisis are apparently affecting the people in Bavaria less than in the rest of Germany. According to the new edition of the “Heimatindex” published on Thursday by the Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken, general satisfaction with life in Bavaria is now almost as high as it was in 2019 before the start of the corona pandemic – and significantly higher than in other federal states. This was announced by the Bavarian Cooperative Association (GVB) on Thursday in Munich.

The so-called homeland index follows the example of the indices commonly used in statistics, economics and the financial sector. However, it is not economic or statistical data that is queried, but satisfaction with one’s own life and living conditions in several categories.

The overall index is now at 67 points. Before the pandemic, the Bavarian-wide average was 70 points. During the first Corona winter of 2020/21, which was characterized by a lockdown lasting several months, the index fell to a low of 56 points.

“Bayern are leaving Corona behind,” commented GVB President Gregor Scheller. The “general satisfaction with life” in Bavaria is currently 73 points, compared to the national average of 53. Inflation, economic uncertainties or the effects of the Ukraine war “do not seem to have a lasting effect on the mood of Bavarians,” Scheller interpreted the result.
