In Gaden, a small town on the Danube that was more or less spared from the floods, a local resident recently formed his hands into a kind of shovel and scooped water out of the flooded meadow in front of his house. Thousands of small mosquito larvae were scurrying around in his hand, and he could hardly see through the water because of all the twitching black. And he was terrified.
